Modalities for implementation of Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana discussed

Department of Horticulture on held a meeting with the representatives of crop insurance companies regarding implementation of Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana (Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme) for Fruit Crops, here today.Director Horticulture Jammu, Anil Kumar Sharma deliberated on some key issues like working out the modalities for implementation of the scheme according to the guidelines of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). The insurance for fruit crops will be taken up under Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS).The Director Horticulture said that initially crop insurance will be taken up in respect of Mango in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts and  Apple crop in Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts of Jammu Division on pilot basis. In the due course of time, the insurance scheme shall be extended to other areas of Jammu Division in case of Mango and Apple crops.The weather parameters viz. frost, temperature, unseasonal rainfall (which includes excess and deficit rainfall) and high speed winds in respect of Mango crop and chilling requirement, temperature fluctuations, rainfall requirement and unseasonal/excess rainfall in case of Apple crop were discussed threadbare. Emphasis on “Add on cover’’ like hailstorm for mango and apple was laid out.

The Director Horticulture also told the participants that more crops will be brought under the ambit of the scheme and for smooth implementation and wide coverage through mass awareness programmes like awareness camps,  and publicity through print and electronic media will be ensured for the farmers so that they can be able to avail the benefits of the scheme.Deputy Director (Central) Horticulture Rajeev Mahajan also spoke on the occasion. Others who attended the meeting were representatives of Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited, ICICI Lombard, IFFCO Tokyo, Future Generali India Insurance Company Ltd, Bajaj Allianz GIC, HDFC-ERGO GIC, Reliance General Insurance Company Limited, SBI GIC, Universal Sompo, GIC and Cholamandalam MS GIC.
