Reviews pace of ongoing works, inaugurates plantation drive

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon Saturdayconducted an extensive tour of Kupwara district and reviewed the progress of ongoing developmental works and functioning of various departments .The Divisional Commissioner  was informed that under the District plan 2015-16 an amount of Rs. 84.11 crores have been utilized which accounts for 79 percent of the set targets. He  was also informed that construction work on children park at Hadwara, Administrative block, Handwara hospital buildings at Kupwara, Sogam and Langate, water harvesting storage tank at Hapatnar, bridges, bus stand , bypass roads have been completed so far.It was given out that Revenue dept has evacuated 420 kanals of government kahcharies from  encroachments which is being covered under the plantation programme.

The Divisional Commissioner also reviewed progress on the PMGSY, R&B, Rural Development, SBM, Sanitation week and other developmental projects. He  directed the R&B and concerned Municipal authorities to ensure effective measures for success of sanitation week in the district.Earlier Dr .Samoon  inaugurated a plantation drive under convergence programme at Higher Secondary School Nagri, Government Degree College Kupwara, Panchayat Halqas at Panzwa and planted various kinds of saplings in the compounds of these institutions.On the occasion, The Divisional Commissioner was informed that under the current plantation drive out of target of 6.88 lakh trees 5 lakh trees have been planted in the district so far  under the convergence programme. Floriculture department  is providing 700 chinar saplings and  besides 200 flower plants for plantation . While Sericulture department is going to provide 50,000 mulberry sablings, 3600 under convergence plan in Panzwa Panchayat halqas. For this purpose 40 kanals of land has been identified for the purpose.The DDC Kupwara, Director Floriculture, Kashmir, Officers of district administration and stack holders of the district were present on these occasions.
