Kissan Mela held at Baramulla

District Development Commissioner, Baramulla, Yasha Mudgal today inaugurated Kissan Machinery cum awareness Mela at Dak Bungalow Baramulla. The camp aimed at acquainting farmers of the district regarding latest techniques and technologies that can be utilised to enhance productivity in the sector.Speaking on the occasion, Yasha Mudgal said, “Cultivation of High Yielding varieties (HYV) should be enhanced and encouraged. Apart from using latest farming technologies, farmers should necessarily conduct soil testing of their farm lands, so that the cultivation of suitable varieties is made possible.While highlighting the importance of conducting awareness camp for farmers, the DDC stressed upon Agriculture department to increase the frequency of conducting such awareness camps so that the farmers are made aware about the recent developments in the farming sector for their larger benefits. It was also impressed upon the concerned department to reinforce their different activities under various programs, so that the agricultural production is enhanced many folds.

The Kissan Machinery Mela cum awareness program was organized by the Department of agriculture in collaboration with various allied departments including horticulture, Sheep and Animal Husbandry, Soil Conservation and Apiculture who have installed as many as 16 Stalls during the mela.It was informed during the camp that as many as 13 Power tillers, 49 irrigation pumps,100 Fruit sprays, 2 Power sprays, 04 Tube wells, 03 Compost units, 66 Poly-green houses, 39 tool kits, and some Water harvesting tanks have been provided to the farmers on subsidy during 2015-16 in district Baramulla.

Meanwhile, DDC distributed Soil Health cards among the progressive farmers of the district.Deputy Director Sericulture, Mohamad Abdullah Bhat, Chief Agriculture Officer, Ab Qayoom Shah, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Dr Farooq Ahmad Shalla, Chief Horticulture Officer Zahoor Ahmad and various concerned Officers were present during the camp.

A huge gathering of farmers across the district participated in the camp.
