Despite tall claims of state administration that they will continue to macadamize the roads in Kashmir valley despite the harsh winter months by importing a specific chemical from outside, the dilapidated road leading from Moominabad to Kaamad Village of South Kashmir Anantnag district here continue to irk people. The inhabitants living in the areas here have appealed the higher ups to look into the matter and redress their genuine grievance at earliest.Locals said that the roads in their area has been macadamized several times but soon after it was macadamized, roads developed potholes but the officials didn’t pay heed over it.Locals alleged that the officials failed to check the quality of material used in road repairing, saying, “We time and again urged officials to ensure the utilization of quality material by contractor in road repairing.”

“However, the substandard construction material was used by the contractor under the supervision of officials that resulted in various potholes and cracks on the Road at many points,” said Abid Hussain a resident of Kammad. He said that while the government has macadamized the roads in the district, at the same time administration has neglected their areas thereby leaves them to lurch at large.“We time and again urged officials to ensure the repair of roads and utilization of quality material by contractor in road macadamization, but they least bothered to repair the roads.” they said. The locals aid that the actual breadth of this road was near about 50mts when it was constructed, but this time its breadth has been reduced to 15mts because people have illegally occupied the road and constructed their houses.

“This encroachment is going on from past some years in our area. We appealed higher authorities several times to take a necessary action against the culprits but the department is in deep slumber and our request falls on deaf ears,” they said.“At least five villages are connected by this road. Due to pathetic condition of the road, students, employees and also patients face immense hardships to reach their respective destinations,” they told KNS. Meanwhile residents also alleged that the officials of concerned department started work in 2015 on the road but unfortunately, works was stopped due to unknown reasons and concerned officials are not directing the contractors to expedite the construction work.
