The former newsreader, who worked for BBC's Urdu pision, joined the PDP in presence of party chief Mufti Mohammad Syed who is a former Indian home minister and chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. On the occasion of her joining, the, Nayeema said the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, ‘be it political, economical or societal, has gone bad to worst over the years and her joining of the party is to see a change in the governance discourse, peace and accountable system in the state’.She said the environment of suspicion has increased manifolds and even people are suspecting each other. “And to challengeand change the situation people need to come into politics and by mourning over it (situation) can’t change anything,” he said. She said a positive face of politics is emerging around the world that is providing political space to people and in our state there is enough need of such politics to appear.  “If people with integrity and positive thinking will join the politics,we can find solution to the problems no matter how old and tough they are. That is reason I have joined the PDP so that I can contribute in realising a positive political narrative in the state,” she said. She said: “I can’t overlook the pathetic economic situation around and can’t remain silent to the sufferings of people and I have come forward for the woman who is helpless to the situation, and for the young girl who is feeling insecure and for the young man who is looked down upon by suspicion both in and outside the state.” Inviting intellectuals, professionals, educated people and youth into the party folds, Sayeed said politics is the foundation of nations and to make it credible and accountable people from different walks of life need to join into it and the PDP offers a respectable space for such people who want contribute in changing the political narrative of Jammu andKashmir.

Addressing a press conference at his Gupkar residence Mufti said the emergence of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at New Delhi is a good omen for the politics of the country and has given a hope that people with ideas and missionary zeal can help in creating a new political environment.Welcoming Nayeema into the party fold, Mufti said the appearance of the PDP on the political sphere of Jammu and Kashmir changed the political discourse in the state and helped a great deal to end the monopoly of a single party, and helped competitive democratic exercise that not only provided people an alternative but resulted in generation of hope and reduction of distress in a substantial measure. He said there is a common thinking around the world and in the country now that people with integrity need to join the politics in making the change happen on the ground and to ensure good governance. PDP, Mufti said, believes that politics can only be made people friendly only when professionals like Nayeema will make it a point that they will use their creative potential in changing the environment around us which is full with uncertainty and suspicion.
