Farmers group flagged off for Inter-District exposure visit

Director Agriculture Jammu Dr. S. S. Jamwal today flagged off a batch of 120 farmers of different areas of Jammu District for an Inter District Exposure visit under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY).  The farmers will visit Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kathua, Dry Land Research Station, Rakh Dhiansar and Dry Land Fruit Research Station, Raya to study the irrigation status, potential and technology to enhance water use efficiency on farms.

While interacting with the farmers on the occasion, Director informed that the visit has been organized to sensitize the farmers about the objectives and impact points of the scheme.  He added that in the context of global warming tendencies and depletion of water resources there is a great need to further modernize agriculture on scientific lines through adoption of micro-irrigation and other water saving technologies. Micro irrigation will be popularized to ensure “Per Drop-More Crop”.

Farmers were informed that during the visit they will get educated through demonstrations on protected vegetable cultivation, moisture conservation, Micro- Irrigation for higher water use efficiency with the use of precision water application devices like drips, sprinklers, pivots and in the farms at Rakh Dhiansar and KVK Kathua.Joint Director of Agriculture (Extension) A. K. Malhotra, and Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs) Jammu, Sudesh Koul also interacted with the farmers on the occasion and called upon them to practically see and learn the effective and better water and moisture conservation techniques during the visit for adoption in their fields.Deputy Project Directors ATMA, B. B. Sidha and Ravinder Kachroo also accompanied the farmers.Chief Agriculture Officer DAO (Extension), R. L. Bhagat, DAO (Inputs) Vinod Ganjoo, SDAO Marh, S. Matindar Singh and other officers were also present on the occasion.
