CEO announces schedule for revision of Municipal Electoral Rolls

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer has announced to revise/update the electoral rolls for the forthcoming general elections to the Municipal Corporations and Municipal Councils and Committees with reference to January 01, 2016 as qualifying date.Accordingly a revision schedule of the rolls has been issued for the information of general public as well as political parties. Persons who are permanent residents of the state and are “ordinarily residents” of the area and who have completed 18 years of age as on January 01, 2016 shall be eligible for registration in the Municipal Electoral Rolls.

As per the revision schedule the date of publication of draft rolls for electoral rolls of Municipal Corporations has been fixed as March 9, 2016 and claims and objections can be filed till March 18, 2016. Disposal of these claims and objections shall be taken up from March 19 to March 23, 2016. Preparation and printing of supplements of additions, deletions and corrections of these rolls shall be carried on March 28, 2016 and the final publication of electoral rolls of Municipal Corporation shall take place on March 31, 2016.

In case of Municipal Councils/Municipal Committees the date of publication of draft rolls has been fixed as March 4, 2016 and the claims and objections can be filed till March 14, 2016. Disposal of these claims and objections shall be taken up from March 15 to March 19, 2016. Preparation and printing of supplements of additions, deletions and corrections of these rolls shall be carried on March 24, 2016 and the final publication of electoral rolls of Municipal Councils/ Municipal Committees shall take place on March 28, 2016.The Electoral Registration Officers (EROs)/AEROs who have been designated for preparation of Municipal Electoral Rolls 2013 have been asked to arrange the display of draft Municipal Electoral Rolls at their respective offices. For any assistance in this regard, people have been advised to contact the concerned Deputy Commissioners or Electoral Registration Officers. The details of designated EROs are available in the offices of Deputy Commissioners of the concerned district and on the website of Chief Electoral Officer at http://ceo.jammukashmir.nic.in.
