DC Kulgam inaugurates plantation drive

On the directions of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, a plantation drive was today launched by Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah from Mini Secretariat here.In the three-week long drive, 500 Chinars and 4.5 lakh conifers and broad leaf plants will be planted at identified spots across the district.Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that Kulgam district has a vast potential to become a green district and initiatives like plantation drive will help in afforestation of bare landforms. The DDC urged the people especially students to take part in the plantation drive by planting one sapling per person at their own level. He said that plantation drives should not be mere administrative initiatives restricted to precincts of offices and colleges but an ongoing exercise performed by every individual throughout their lives. The DDC also said that in coming days, various departments like school education, RDD, and other forestry related departments will be roped in to make this initiative a success in the district.
