Khurshid Ganai for immediate de-silting of irrigation canals

Seeks effective grievance redressal mechanism in departments

Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ganai today directed the officers of the Irrigation Department to take immediate necessary steps for desilting the irrigation canals in Jammu well before the beginning of Kharief Season.The advisor was addressing the officers while chairing a review meeting here today.Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Secretary PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mr Rohit Kansal, Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, M.A. Bukhari, Secretary, Rural Development, Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, Director Agriculture Jammu, S S Jamwal , Director Rural Development, Jammu,  M.L. Raina and Chief Engineer I&FC Jammu were present in the meeting.The Advisor directed for dovetailing the de-silting of main canals and their tributaries with MGNREGA under the supervision and guidance of the respective District Development Commissioners to ensure their speedy completion while maintaining transparency. He issued specific instructions to the Deputy Commissioner Jammu to personally oversee the de-silting work of Ranbir Canal and it’s all main distributaries and Tawi Lift Irrigation canal enabling their timely completion. 

Mr Ganai also directed the Secretary I&FC to set up Control Rooms at block, district and State level for ensuring timely redress of the grievances of the farmers, besides setting up dedicated telephone numbers for receiving the feedback. He said an effective mechanism should also be devised for quick and timely disposal of the problems (grievances) being faced by the people of the state especially those living in rural and far-flung areas.The Advisor also directed the Commissioner Secretary Agriculture Production department to ensure continuous and uninterrupted supply of agriculture inputs like seeds, fertilizers, weedicides, fungicides, insecticides etc to the farmers. He said the officers should ensure that the farmers do not face any inconvenience.Mr. Ganai also directed the officers to monitor the situation at Divisional and district levels so that a fool proof mechanism is put in place for extending every sort of assistance to the farming community so that they can undertake hassle free agricultural activities.
