DDC chairs meeting regarding Plantation Drive

Mega Plantation drive to be carried in district Baramulla during March

In order to review the arrangements for plantation drive in the district and to review the progress of the target plantation convened by various departments so far, a meeting of officers was today chaired by District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Yasha Mudgal.The DDC directed the officers to coordinate in formulating a comprehensive plantation drive plan to be carried in March. The Chinar Development Officer was directed to provide 3500 Chinar trees for institutional plantation programme during Plantation drive across Government Offices, schools and Panchayat Ghars in the district, while as the DFO’s were impressed upon to provide 3000 Conifer and other forest tree saplings for the Plantation drive.The meeting comprehensively reviewed the arrangements for the plantation drive that is to take place shortly in the district. Besides, it also reviewed the plantation carried so far by Forest, Soil Conservation, Rural development and other departments so far across the district.

It was informed that Forest nurseries at Baramulla and Boniyar have availability of 2 lakh conifer saplings, while as 1 Lakh saplings of Broad leaved tree saplings are present in the Khadiniyar Nursery.Assistant Commissioner Development informed the meeting that the target plantation under Watershed Development Plan for 2015-16 was fixed at 70,000, out of which 40,000 trees have already been planted and the rest will be planted very soon. Similarly, Soil Conservation Officer informed that out of the target of 51,000 for planting trees, 38,210 trees have been planted so far in the district.CHO informed that at Khwajabagh, Pattan and Uri nurseries, there is the availability of 50,000 saplings of Pear, Peach, Plum, Apricot and Grapes.Impressing upon the Officers to arrange plants and complete the required targets well in time, the DDC also directed the Officers to ensure that sign boards are placed at the plantation sites. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bashir Ahmad Khan, Assistant Commissioner Development, Mir Munnawar, Chief Education Officer, Divisional Forest Officers, Chief Horticulture Officer and other officers attended the meeting.
