Gurpreet ‘Ghuggi’ joins AAP, says it is his payback time to the people Punjab

Celebrated Punjabi Film actor and well known comedian cum political satirist Gurpreet Singh ‘Ghuggi’ on Wednesday joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with an aim to fight against the various problems being faced by the people of Punjab. Ghuggi while addressing the press conference here said it was his own conscious decision that forced him to join the AAP after he watched degeneration of Punjab on all fronts for many years. Ghuggi was accompanied by AAP National Spokesperson and Incharge Punjab Party Affairs Sanjay Singh, National Organizational Secretary, Durgesh Pathak, Sangrur MP, Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Legal Wing President, Himmat Singh Shergil and Youth wing President Harjot Bains.
Speaking on the occasion, Ghuggi said during the last 25 years of his career he had earned lot of love & respect of the people living all across the world but at the same time the deteriorating situation of the people of Punjab really saddened him a lot. “So I think it is a payback time for me to the people of Punjab", he added. ”Everyday newspapers are replete with reports of farmers committing suicides, youth being dragged into the whirlpool of drugs and narcotics and Punjab roads have become killer routes", said Ghuggi adding such a scenario had actually shaken him forcing him to do something constructive for Punjab which has given him so much of love.
According to Ghuggi though he seriously pondered over the aforesaid issues and even tried to bring those in the public domain through his comic satirical acts but he realized he needed a platform to raise these issues more vociferously. Responding to a question Ghuggi admitted that though he got offers from other political parties as well but he was impressed only with the ideology & functioning of the AAP. “Frankly speaking all the other traditional political parties with their corrupt practices have failed to uplift or bring a tangible change in the lives of the common man." It was indeed impressive to watch Arvind Kejriwal's practical approach towards resolving the various problems faced by cross section of people. I frequently go to Delhi and learn about the goodwill Kejriwal has generated through his dedication and work", added Ghuggi.
Welcoming the move, Sanjay Singh said that as a responsible citizen Ghuggi has been raising the issue related to Punjab for a long time and his arrival will further strengthen the party. Chhotepur said that with his political satires, Ghuggi has always been successful in giving the right message & direction to people of Punjab and the party will get benefit from his experience. Bhagwant Mann said that he is happy that one of his close associates has joined the party fold and has come forward to raise the real issues of people at a platform that he has been associated with for a long time. He said that Ghuggi is a great orator and AAP needs his services to convey to the people of the state about the policies of the Aam Aadmi Party.
