The tussle between two villages of North Kashmir’s Sopore town have left dozens of hamlets without electricity and water supply from last six days, while authorities have been acting as mute spectators giving a free hand to some unscrupulous elements who according to affected people are patronized by some political leaders.Sources told CNS that the villagers of Dooru Sopore snapped the power connection to the Shivaa village after the residents of Shiva demanded that power should be supplied to them from Dooru Receiving Station, a demand didn’t accept by the people of Dooru. The villagers of Shivaa took the matter serious and took revenge by disconnecting the water tap connections to 28 villages of Zainagir Tehsil including Dooru, Dangarpora, Bratkalan, Seelu, Bomai and Saidpora. Irritated by this action, the villagers of Dooru went a step ahead and disconnected the power supply to Mandji, Sempora, Rashidabad, Goripora, Darpora, Cherhar and other villages besides Shivaa.
Locals said that scores of villages have been reeling under darkness and are without drinking water from last six days due to the tussle between the villagers of Shivaa and Dooru. “The irony is that authorities are in deep slumber and have allowed some unscrupulous elements to act at their will,” said a local Javaid Ahmed. He said that an activist from a political party who also happens to be the employee of Power Development Department is the root cause of this tussle. The affected villagers appealed authorities to resolve the issue amicably. When contacted SDM Sopore Bashir Ahmed Bhat told CNS that he held series of meetings with the representatives of these villages and hopefully the matter will be resolved. (CNS)
