Terming martyrs Mohammad Afzal Guru, Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and others as ‘national and Milli heroes’, Jammu Kashmir National Front (JKNF) chairman and Hurriyat leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan Sunday called for complete shutdown on February 9 and 11.In a statement issued to KNS, Khan appealed people to observe the martyrdom anniversaries of Guru and Maqbool and protest on February 9 and 11.While paying tributes to Guru and Maqbool on their 3rd and 32th martyrdom anniversaries, Khan said that these ideological martyrs are the torch bearers of the resistance movement. He said that Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru were hanged and buried in the infamous Tihar jail Delhi in 1984 and 2013 respectively.“India has been killing our freedom loving brethren ever since 1947 but New Delhi crossed all moral limits when it jailed even the remains of Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru,” he said.

He appealed justice loving people and organisations of the world to help the families of Maqbool and Guru to attain the remains of their martyrs. Khan said, “We will never give up our demand that the remains of our beloved martyrs should be handed over to us. Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru laid down their lives for the cause of freedom and provide us a lesson not to surrender before oppression and suppression. We pledge to take the mission of Guru and Bhat to its logical conclusion,” Nayeem said.“India killed Bhat to crush the freedom aspiration of Kashmiri people but failed because after the martyrdom of Bhat our struggle got momentum by his precious blood,” Khan said. “Two years before India murdered Guru to satisfy its national conscience but Kashmiris still demand freedom from India, so New Delhi should know it once for all that Kashmiris are not going to surrender their just political demand. People will never ever forget their sacrifices because we are a living nation,” he added. (KNS)
