Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone reviewed the progress of dredging on river Jhelum and inspected various dredging spots in the district.The Deputy Commissioner who was accompanied by Superintending Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Mohammad Lateef and AEE Sub Division Srinagar inspected the dredging sites at Soiteng, Gandbal, Shivpora, Abdullah Bridge and Noorbagh.The officers informed the Deputy Commissioner that 92 thousand Cubic meters have been dredged so far out of the total target of one lakh forty seven thousand cubic meters.Dr Lone asked the officers to expedite the dredging process so that carrying capacity of the river increases besides bottle necks across the river are removed.

He said that dredging on large scale will begin soon in second phase of the process wherein the target of dredging 7 lakh cubic meters of the river has been fixed.Later, Deputy Commissioner visited Tangnaar Water Supply Scheme and said the scheme has the capacity of 10 million gallons per day taking capacity of Srinagar city to 89 million gallon per day. He also said the scheme will increase the water capacity of the city which will suffice the need of the public upto 2025.He asked the officers to expedite the work on the scheme and directed them to complete all related works so that the scheme is commissioned at the earliest. The scheme is being constructed at the cost of Rs 148 crores
