CEO reviews preparations for Panchayat, Municipal Elections

Chief Electoral Officer J&K, Shantmanu chaired a meeting of officers to review the preparations of forthcoming Municipal elections and Panchayat elections and also achievements under  Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls 2016, at Udhampur. Deputy Commissioner (District Election Officer) Udhampur Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary was also present on the occasion.Threadbare discussions were held on various issues which mainly include Finalization of electoral rolls, segregation of electoral rolls from the existing rolls for Municipal elections, plan of SVEEP activities, Status of EPIC's, special summary revision of electoral rolls 2016 etc.While speaking on the occasion, CEO instructed all the EROs and AEROs to do booth wise analysis of electoral rolls and include the new additions, if any for the upcoming elections. Stressing on the need to put in concerted efforts by the concerned officers, CEO asked them to involve men and machinery so that  no eligible voter is left out from the electoral roll. He also reviewed the ward wise segregation of electoral areas to avoid any confusion and error.Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur briefed CEO JK about preparations and activities carried out in the district for upcoming urban local bodies election and panchayat elections, SVEEP activities,  status of EPICs and  SSR electoral rolls wherein 11500 voters were added recently. He informed that 41 wards (21 in Udhampur, 13 in Ramnagar and 7 in Chenani) are involved for ULB elections wherein 35,000 voters will be eligible to excercise franchise. There will be2.92 Lakh voters for panchayats elections wherein 204 Panchayats and 1540 panch wards will go to elections in proposed 5 phase election. The elected panchayats have to be in place before 14th July 2016, it was informed.District Udhampur has achieved 99.98% Electoral Photo Identity Card for voters, which is highest in state.Among others, ADDC Udhampur Arvind Sharma, ADC Udhampur A S Rana, PO DRDA Dr J C Mehra, ACD J S Rai, CEO Bishan Singh, SDMs, EROs, DPO, Tehsildars (AEROs) and ENT were also  present in the meeting.
