First Ever In Punjab: Hop-On Hop-Off Buses For Amritsar

Undertaking a unique initiative, Government of Punjab has decided to introduce Double Decker Hop-on Hop-off buses in the holy city, Amritsar, informed Mr. Sohan Singh Thandal, Tourism Minister Punjab.He said that the holy city of Amritsar is the most prominent tourist attraction in Punjab with daily footfall of approximately 8000 tourists.  As of now except for private tour operators the major places of interest are not connected by public/mass transportation systems.  In order to achieve this objective, Government of Punjab is going to introduce five Double Decker Hop-on Hop-off buses in Amritsar to facilitate the tourists, said he.Mr. Thandal informed that these Buses will be operational during the daytime and the tourists will be offered a single ticket to board the buses to  visit Golden Temple, Rambagh Gate, Rambagh Garden, Town Hall, Durgiana Mandir, Gobindgarh Fort, Heritage Village, War memorial, Wagah Border and Ram Tirath Temple any number of times during the day.  The tourists can get down at these places and board the next available bus in the beat after exploring the tourist attraction. Ticketing tourist will buy single ticket for the whole day. They will have the flexibility to Hop –off at any tourist destination in the circuit and after site seeing they can Hop- on the next bus in the beat.The proposal was finalized in meeting held under the chairmanship of Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Punjab.  He has directed that the project should be implemented under the overall supervision of the Department of Tourism, informed Mr. Thandal. He added that such an activity will boost the tourism trade and will also help to generate revenue for the state.Tourism Minister said that consultant is being selected through tendering process who will prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to cover Route, Timings & Ticketing aspects in addition to leasing out on Public- Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
