Div Com Kashmir reviews functioning of Fisheries Department

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, today reviewed the functioning of Fisheries department in a meeting, he chaired here.During the meeting, the officers of the Fisheries Department informed the Divisional Commissioner that the fish production in the state has crossed 20,000 ton mark.“The department has established 416 carp units and 296 trout units in the state while the seed production reached 450 million in carp and 9 million in trout last year,” the officers informed the Divisional Commissioner. Divisional Commissioner stressed on expansion of trout rearing unit in Verinag and directed the officials to acquire more land for the existing farm.During the meeting, the officials said a proposal is being mooted for providing assistance of Rs 1000 per month to Shikara wallas for helping the department in watch and ward.Meanwhile, Dr. Samoon asked the Fisheries department to seek assistance of Government of India in setting up the National Fisheries Institute in the state.
