Democratic Freedom party (DFP) on Friday said the silence of human rights bodies over the situation here is a “tragedy for Kashmiris.”“Such criminal silence on part of HR bodies encourages India to crush the genuine voices of Kashmiri people. Such attitude cannot be termed as people friendly,” it said in a statement issued here on Friday.“Our struggle is just and genuine and we will continue our mission by braving all odds. No power in this world can crush our movement.”A spokesperson said the authorities have slapped Public Safety Act (PSA) on party member, Abdul Waheed in Handwara and he has been shifted to Kot Bhalwal jail.Police also arrested various DFP activists from Islamabad, Shopian, Baramulla, Pulwama and other parts of the valley, he said.

While terming the continuous detention of the its chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah, as “unconstitutional”, he said “apart from converting the whole valley into a virtual jail, Indian authorities have imposed a blanket ban on the movement of resistance leaders of Jammu and Kashmir.”He said that Shah has been kept under house arrest for a period of 229 days during which he was barred from offering prayers on 46 Fridays and two Eids."This amounts to a total of 30 months of house detention with restrictions of 180 Friday and 9 Eid prayers since his release in 2011. Even today, he continues to be under house arrest and was not allowed to offer five Friday prayers this year,” he said.Terming such attitude of administration as “autocratic”, the spokesperson said despite the “repressive and suppressive" measures, the people will continue, with full zeal and vigor, the freedom movement.” (CNS)
