Army man killed in Kashmir conferred Ashok Chakra

An Indian Army soldier who lost his life during an encounter with militants in Haphrada forests in frontier district of Kupwara district in Kashmir Valley in September last year was conferred Ashok Chakra posthumously on Monday.The slain soldier Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami who was conferred India’s highest peacetime gallantry award belonged to elite Special Forces. A Defence official told CNS that Goswami lost his life after he tried to rescue his two wounded associates during the gunfight with the militants. “Goswami not only rescued his two colleagues but also killed two militants before falling to their bullets.” (CNS)
