People’s Political Party organized a peaceful march on Thursday to mark the 26th anniversary of Gawkadal massacre 1990. On this day in 1990, more than 50 civilians were butchered by Para-military Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men after they resorted to indiscriminate firing on a procession in Gawkadal area of Lal Chowk. The march was led by PPP present Hilal Ahmed War.War said, “the Gowkadal massacre is perhaps the first of its kind in the history of Kashmir in which signals of massacre were given well in advance. “On January 20, 1990 Jagmohan’s first television address as Governor stunned everyone. It was a provocative address and a direct threat.”Heappealed the Pandit fraternity not to be a part of the Jagmohan’s conspiracy anymore. “I request and invite my Pandit brethren to come back and live shoulder to shoulder with Muslims and those Pandits who braved all odds but stayed put in 1990.” War said that there is no room for a separate homeland.

He said that the whole idea of this separate home land has been engineered by the ideologues of RSS. “There are no takers for this homeland business of RSS and my Pandit friends should understand this and they shouldn’t become pawns in the hands of the Hindutva forces.”. War said that Indian leadership shouldn’t rule out a full-fledged war as it continues to sleep over the burning K-issue. “India must know that a nuclear conflagration cannot entirely be ruled out. And in case of a war, India should get shocked if China too jumps in because of the many dynamics that came about in the last decade or so.” While paying the homage to Gawkadal Martyrs in the rally, Mr. War said, “The Gawkadal Massacre was a well thought out plan of the then Government of India which was aimed at paving the way for Kashmiri Pandit’s exodus from Kashmir”.
