Devotion to God has held its own importance or significance in human life since ages. True devotion, however, never identified itself with man’s outer appearance, symbols and signs or the design or colour of dress. Saints, Gurus and prophets always described it as a sacred feeling expressing man’s love, faith and total submission to God.This was observed here yesterday by His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh JiMaharaj, Head of the Sant Nirankari Mission, while addressing Bhakti ParvSamagam held by the Mission to remember and take inspiration from the devotees who expressed their devotion to God by acting as ordained by Satguru – the True Master. The Samagam was attended by thousands of devotees not only from Delhi and its adjoining areas but various other parts of the country also. The gathering attained special significance since His Holiness returned only on Saturday from a fortnight-long salvation tour of Dubai, Muscat, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi and he wasaddressing a congregation in Delhi for the first time in New Year.

Baba Ji said that since devotion to God is a feeling, it is a subject of heart, not the brain. A true devotee submits to the will of God completely with no scope for ‘Ifs’ and ‘Buts’. It is a matter of love, not cleverness, that reigns his heart all the time. And love is a pure stream that flows in the life of a devotee round the clock. His Holiness said that love has become a scarce commodity today. And this shortage was always met by devotees. They treat everyone as their own because their conduct is guided by human values such as love, compassion, broad vision, tolerance and contentment. They see God in all and all in God, which is the definition given by Lord Krishna to his most beloved devotees.Baba Hardev Singh JiMaharaj said a true devotee is hued in the colour of love and devotion to such an extent that he starts identifying the Almighty God. He is so engrossed in the remembrance of “You” that his “I” is completely merged into “You” itself. Baba Ji said that devotees here remember God after they know Him and then they tell the world also to do the same. They rise above the diversities of language, culture and region.

Even in Gulf countries, he said, they are presenting a beautiful example of unity in diversity. The congregation is acting as the most loving family to those who have gone away from their own families in search of jobs and earning their livelihood through hard labour. He quoted an example of a devotee from West Bengal who met with an accident inAbu Dhabi and is being looked after by fellow devotees for the last 19 months. His Holiness said that a true devotee acts as ordained by his true master – Satguru. Shahenshah Baba Avtar Singh Ji and Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji proved this through their conduct before they themselves got the responsibility to lead the Mission. More recently, Rev RajmataKulwantKaurJi presented a living example of a true devotee before us all. That is why we are remembering them and other such devotees today at Bhakti Parvand seeking inspiration from their life.Baba Ji exhorted the followers of the Mission to continue to spread this message of true devotion based on God-knowledge and human values of love, compassion, humility, submission, broad vision, tolerance and contentment. He reminded them that devotion is no devotion without love. Similarly, neither devotion nor a devotee can exist without humility. And devotion is considered weak without contentment and imperfect without broad vision and tolerance.Earlier, His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh JiMaharaj and his gracious spouse Pujya Mata SawinderJi were led by leading saints of the Mission, Sewadal and other devotees in a colourful procession up to the venue of the Samagam. It was marked by Sewadal Band in particular.
