DGP hails role of NGOs in making society tobacco free

Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar has appreciated the efforts of non-governmental organizations in liberating the society from the menace of tobacco consumption.He said besides government departments, various organizations are playing commendable job in convincing the people about the ill effects of use of tobacco on their health.Rajendra was interacting with the members of a JK Voluntarily Health and Development Association, who called on DGP at Police Headquarters here today.The team members briefed the DGP about the achievements of Association during last two years in the State. They said that the NGO is helping Jammu and Kashmir Police in ensuring strict enforcement of Cigarette and other Tobacco Products Act (COPTA). Besides, 32,447 challans have been issued in various parts of the State under Section 4 of the Act, realizing a fine of Rs. 32 lakh.The team members, who called on DGP, were Mohammad Afzal Makhdoomi, Mohammad Altaf and Hema Vaid.
