Day When Maharaja Dalip Singh Arrived At Bassian Kothi Celebrated Today

A Play "The Last Maharaja Of Punjab" Staged On The Occasion

The day when Maharaja Dalip Singh was brought to Bassian Kothi by the Britishers was celebrated by Maharaja Dalip Singh Trust at the memorial constructed in the memory of Maharaja Dalip Singh at Bassian Kothi near Raikot today. A play "The Last Maharaja of Punjab" was also staged on the occasion. This play was produced by Karkhal Art Production Mumbai.The function started by organising a Sukhmani Sahib path by members of Sri Sukhmani Sewa Society Raikot and the ardas was performed by Bhai Hardeep Singh, head granthi of Gurudwara Tahliana Sahib.Before the staging of the play, Sardarni Mahinder Kaur Talwandi (Cabinet Rank Punjab Government), who was chief guest on the occasion, paid floral tributes at the statue of Maharaja Dalip Singh installed in the museum at Bassian Kothi. 

The audience got emotional while watching the play as it showcased the entire sequence of events and the way Maharaja Dalip Singh was brought to Bassian Kothi on December 31, 1849 and he spent the last night as a Sikh emperor before being sent to England.On the occasion, Prof Gurbhajan Gill, president, Maharaja Dalip Singh Trust appreciated the efforts of trust's secretary and writer of this play Mr Parminder Singh as well as the play director Mr Jasvir Singh Baroondi for showcasing this historical play.Prominent among those present on the occasion included SGPC member Jagjit Singh Talwandi, Mohan Singh Talwandi, Amandeep Singh Gill, singer Balvir Boparai, APRO Ludhiana Puneet Pal Singh Gill, besides several others.
