SWD launches AASRA at Banihal

Department of Social Welfare today launched AASRA-the insurance-based scheme, which aims at providing security to Below Poverty Line families in a function at Pogal, Banihal.Member Legislative Assembly Banihal Vikar Rasool Wani was the chief guest on the occasion. Officers of different departments, prominent citizens, PRIs and large number of general public were present on the occasion.Emphasizing on benefits of the scheme, MLA said that J&K has achieved the distinction of having a prime social assistance scheme to insure low-income group families in the event of death and disability of the bread earner.MLA asked the Social Welfare Department to identify beneficiaries in a transparent manner and encourage registration of casual labours and weaker section of society under the AASRA scheme.Speaking on the occasion, DSWO, Ramban Varun Jeet Singh Charak said that social taboos and poor economic conditions hinder the intellectual and professional growth of a girl who is considered burden on the parents; adding initiatives like AASRA and state marriage assistance to poor girls shall help break this stereotype.  He asked the deserving families to come forward and take benefits of the scheme.
