Speaker inaugurates 2-day Red Cross Mela at GCW Gandhi Nagar

Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today inaugurated two-day Red Cross Mela organized by NSS and Red Cross units of Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar in the College premises.Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the GCW Gandhi Nagar, Secretary, Regional Red Cross Society, Jammu, R C Puri, Deputy Controller, Civil Defense, Ms Tejinder Kour, besides faculty members, parents and students in large numbers were also present on the occasion.The programme began with lighting of the traditional lamp by the chief guest and other dignitaries followed by welcome address by Dr. Kiran Bakshi.After inspecting 55 stalls set up by the different departments and students of Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar, the Speaker offered his full support to organize such events for the welfare of the society. He said that the objective of organizing the Red Cross Mela is to create awareness among the general masses regarding the activities of the Red Cross Society and generate funds for the welfare activities of the society.

He stressed for greater involvement of social organizations and youth for the upliftment to downtrodden and those facing distress due to manmade or natural calamities besides providing services to destitute, orphans and needy people.

In her welcome address, Dr. Kiran Bakshi urged students to work for the betterment of the society and said that this Mela is also a step towards nation building and will definitely help to inculcate managerial, organizational and entrepreneur skills amongst the students.A cultural programme was also presented by the students of the college and artists of the Department of Information Department and Public Relations on the occasion which was highly applauded by the audience.Variety of stalls, traditional food items, Jewellery, cosmetics, handicrafts, Games, various rides, musical bonanza etc. are the main attractions of Mela.Earlier, the Speaker also kick started black-topping works of 3.5 km long road from Bandhu Rakh to Mehmood Pur Chowk Bishnah to be completed at a cost of Rs. 1.25 crore. He asked the executing agencies to gear up their efforts in completing the ongoing project within stipulated time frame.Enroute, various deputations from the areas met the Speaker and apprised him with their demands to which the Speaker assured that the genuine demands would be redressed on priority basis.

Speaker also attended the Annual Day function of KIDZEE School Rehari at Polytechnic College Auditorium Jammu.On the occasion, the Children of the School presented a scintillating cultural programme which was highly appreciated by the audience.While speaking on the occasion, Mr Gupta highlighted   the role of teachers and parents in shaping the  personality of the children  and said that such events play an important  role in making the  children physically and mentally strong besides inculcates in them  discipline,  , moral and ethical values .Director, KIDZEE Mr. Kuldeep Gupta, Senior Journalist, Sohail Kazmi, Principal KIDZEE, teachers, parents and audience were also present on the occasion.
