Department of Libraries organizes debate on ‘importance of book’ at Kathua

Department of Libraries and Research under the aegis of District Library Kathua organized a debate on the subject, “Importance of Book” in the premises of district library here at Kathua today.MLA Hiranagar Kuldeep Raj was the chief guest on the occasion. Deputy Director Libraries & Research Om Parkash was the guest of honour. Students from different Government and private institutions of Kathua town participated in the debate competition and expressed their views on the topic.The participating students threw light on the role of books in every sphere of human life, terming books as best medium to enrich knowledge and intellect.

While appreciating the students, MLA Hiranagar Kuldeep Raj said that books are best friends and instrumental in gaining knowledge and wisdom. He appealed students to inculcate the habit of reading good books and expand their horizon of knowledge. He appreciated the department of Libraries and Research for organizing such programme for the awareness of students, called for organizing more such programmes in future also.Deputy Director Libraries and Research, Om Parkash appreciated the students for expressing their thoughts on the subjects.A team of three judges comprising Dr Rachna Raj, Dr Karan Singh and Deepa Sharma adjudged the debating participants.Jeewan Jyoti of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kathua bagged first position, Rashmi Devi of Nav Adarsh academy Kharote and Sanjana of Spring Dales Higher Secondary School Kathua bagged second and third position respectively.Later MLA Hiranagar Kuldeep Raj gave away prizes and certificates among the winners and participants.Incharge District Library Kathua, Ramesh Chander, prominent citizens, teachers and large number of students were present on the occasion.
