Financial assistance worth Rs. 52 lacs 600 has been provided to the registered workers under Building & other construction workers welfare board by Punjab Govt. in the district SAS Nagar and approval for providing financial assistance worth Rs. 14 lac 42 thousand 369 to 299 other construction workers has been given. This was stated by SDM Lakhmeer Singh while he was addressing a meeting at district administration complex with committee thus constituted for providing financial assistance to registered construction workers under various welfare schemes by Punjab Building & Other Construction workers welfare board.SDM said that various schemes are being run by the board for the welfare of registered construction workers. He said that under LTC scheme Rs. 3 lacs 68 thousand has been provided to 184 workers, meanwhile Rs. 1 lac 24 thousand has been provided to 4 beneficiaries under Shagun scheme, whereas under scholarship scheme Rs. 6 lacs 64 thousand 200 stands provided to 103 beneficiaries and an ex-gratia amount of Rs. 1 lac 50 thousand has been provided in one case. Similarly Rs. 50 thousand has been provided for cremation in 5 cases and Rs. 5 thousand for maternity cases and Rs. 81 thousand 169 for treatment of chronic disease has been approved.

He said that financial assistance is being provided to only registered construction workers which are eligible members of the board and to become member of  Punjab Building & Other Construction Welfare Board, a person has to submit onetime fee of Rs. 25/- only along with application to be deposited to Assistant work Commissioner/ Advisor to Work Officer or Work Inspector. Then after a monthly contribution of Rs. 10/- is required to be deposited as a continuation fee for the membership. Punjab Govt. provides financial assistance worth Rs. 31 thousand is being provided for marriage of girl child under Shagun Scheme to the construction worker who is registered under Punjab Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. Beside this the registered member could also avail this financial assistance for his own marriage. Besides this, under scholarship scheme Rs. 2800 to 58000/- are being provided to the eligible Childs of construction workers, under Ex-gratia scheme Rs. 1.50 lacs are being provided, Rs. 10000 for cremation, Rs. 5000 for maternity care and Rs. 1 lacs for treatment of chronic disease are being provided. Besides these, after completion of 5 years membership a pension of Rs. 12 thousand is being provided per year.
