MoU to offer Oversea Jobs & Scholarships for CU students

Chandigarh University has entered into an understanding with British Columbia’s Thompson Rivers University. An MoU encompassing a wide range of collaborations in various spheres was signed today between the premier Canadian university and Chandigarh University. The memorandum was signed between Ms Balhua Chadwick, Associate Vice President, Thompson Rivers University, BC, Canada and Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University at the university campus today in the presence of Punjab cabinet Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka.The understanding is being seen as a giant leap forward with respect to forging effective relationship between Indian and Canadian universities. 

A high level delegation of Thompson Rivers University visited Chandigarh University’s Gharuan campus and took first hand view of the university facilities and infrastructure. Officials from Thompson Rivers University made announcements with far reaching benefits for Chandigarh University students. As part of the understanding students of Chandigarh University have been given International Placements offers as well as scholarships from premier British Columbian entrepreneurs.Dr Ron Mandi, an entrepreneur and hotelier from British Columbia who was part of TRU delegation announced job offers to at least five students of Chandigarh University per year as part of a wider understanding forged through the MoU between TRU and Chandigarh University. The placement offers for tourism and hotel management students of Chandigarh University will take off with immediate effect. A proposal for offering more scholarships to CU students has been set in motion. Dr Ron Mandi also announced an additional discount of 20% on accommodation to students from Chandigarh University on an already subsidized stay for foreign students in British Columbia.

While informing the canvass of the MoU signed, Dr R S Bawa, Vice Chancellor, Chandigarh University said that the current understanding envisages a long term partnering between the two premier universities on various fronts with particular focus on the spheres of hotel management and tourism during the incipient phase of the collaboration. Lauding the efforts of Chandigarh University in raising a world class infrastructure and academic delivery standard to catalyse long term strategic partnership with foreign universities, Sikandar Singh Maluka, Punjab Cabinet Minister termed this arrangement as a visionary step that would open up vistas of opportunities for students of both the universities and help establish a truly global education scenario in northern India.
