World Soil Health Day commemorated across Kashmir

The World Soil Health Day was commemorated by the Department of Agriculture in different parts of Kashmir Valley on Saturday.The main function was organised at Chief Agriculture Office Complex in Lal Mandi Srinagar in which Director Agriculture, Kashmir, interacted with a group of farmers and emphasised upon the need of soil health for sustainable agriculture. He said that the year 2015 has been declared as Year of Soils by United Nations.On this occasion, Soil Chemist, Srinagar, created awareness among the participant farmers about soil sampling, soil testing and the scientific ways of preserving the health of soil.Director Agriculture also distributed soil health cards among the participants.

AT Pulwama, a function was organized at KVK Pulwama in which hundreds of farmers observed the Day.MLA, Mohammad Khalil Bandh, who presided over the function, stressed upon the concerned officers to organize more such functions so that more and more could avail the benefit of schemes of the department.The senior officers of Agriculture departments and Subject Matter Experts of KVK gave detailed knowhow to the farmers about the use of latest scientific technologies to boost the agriculture production.At Bandipora, a training-cum-awareness camp was organized by Agriculture Department at Town-Hall Bandipora in which District Development Commissioner Bandipora, Chief Agriculture Officer Bandipora, Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer, Field Functionaries, besides the farmers were present.

During the camp, the speakers highlighted the importance of celebrating Soil Health Day and explained the tips of soil testing for better production.Meanwhile, on the eve of World Soil Health Day today, KVK Bandipora organized awareness camp at Sumlar Bandipora. The camp was attended by the scientists of KVK, besides local farmers.During the camp, the farmers were trained on the use of organic manures, judicious use of fertilizers and integrated nutrient management for crops, based on the soil status. The farmers were also stressed upon to use well decomposed farm-yard manures for better soil.Programme Coordinator KVK and experts sensitized the farmers regarding importance of healthy soil. Later, soil health cards were distributed among the farmers.
