Sarvesh Kaushal Chief Secretary Punjab today underlined the need for increasing interface between government and academia to improve delivery of services in a democracy.Inaugurating a two week capacity building programme for Social Sciences Faculty Members of Universities/colleges/research institutes organized at Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID) Chandigarh today Chief Secretary quoted the American model where the close coordination between the bureaucracy and academia has resulted in perfect governance.He pointed out the need to organise the capacity building in social sciences as the tools and methods of research in social sciences that have undergone a tremendous change with the advent of technology.

“Research by the specialists in social science can provide important inputs for the policy makers”, “The education institutes should not barely give thrust to the employability but also on the quality research in the relevant field. The success rate of the students should also be aligned with the excellence in research rather than the highest package offered to the students”, emphasized Kaushal.He further said that the research in social sciences can also help in creating a harmonious climate in multi-cultural society like India. 

The latest techniques in research that can engage the tools with a surgeon’s precision can help the policy makers in taking decisions for the welfare of the electorates saving a lot of time and energy.The Executive Chairman of CRRID Rashpal Malhotra, apprised the audience about the field research work done by the CRRID and its endorsement by the Government of India and State Governments in the past two decades. He said that an amount of Rs.9.40 lakh has been sanctioned by the ICSSR, New Delhi to conduct this programme. In this programme, the candidates will be given extensive and intensive training in capacity building in organizing and conducting quality research in different Social Sciences disciplines. The candidates will be imparted training in conducting field surveys, preparing research articles as well as research projects, for funding from National and International Agencies/Institutions.
