Sharjah Ladies Club showed staunch skills in prestigious Ping Pong event in Egypt

The 2015 Arab Women Club Table Tennis Championship saw local favorites - the Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) - compete in the steely Iron Group, alongside tournament champions Egypt’s Al Ahly SC, Algeria’s Athletic Boudouaou, and Iraq’s Al Sinaa and Al Nasawi clubs. Held from November 7th to 14th, this year’s tournament was organized by the Egyptian Table Tennis Federation, and took place in the Youth City Stadium inSharm el-Sheikh city.The popular competition’s 27th edition saw the participation of 93 club members from 22 countries from all over the Arab world. This was the second ever participation in the event for the SLC team, having previously taken part in 2011 in Lebanon. The 3 athletic SLC team members - Ahlam Adel al Shamsi, Majd Al Baloushi, and Noura Hassan -as well as Armenian trainer Anita Sergian and administrative team Zarqaa Al Yamama and physiotherapist Regia Filippo, aimed to benefit from the tournamentin preparationof the 3rd Arab Women Sports Tournament, to be held in Sharjah in February 2016.

SLCTeam Administrative LeadAl Yamama stressed the importance of participating in the Championship, noting that it is an excellent opportunity for SLC to learn first-hand from competing against seasoned veterans of the game in the Arab world.Al Yamama furthermore acknowledged that the SLC players possess great talentand promising sporting futures, especially under the direction of skilled coach Anita Sergian, but that competitions like the Table Tennis Tournamentare crucial to them gainingglobal exposure and experience necessary for future victories.The Arab Women Club Table Tennis Tournament concluded yesterday, November 14th, with Egypt’s Al Ahly SC as the reigning champions, and the SLC team earning an impressive, well-deserved 6th place.
