Div Com kick-starts cleanliness drive from Sher-i-Kashmir Park

Directs Municipal Committees to identify dumping sites

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hussain Samoon, today kick started cleanliness drive from Sher-i-Kashmir park, here in presence of officials and general public.On the occasion, Divisional Commissioner appealed masses to cooperate with government in making the drive a success that aimed to keep the city clean. He said that the drive that was earlier started only at tourist places now includes entire Kashmir. The main motive of the drive is to keep our environment clean and healthy, he said and stressed on need to keep habitations and water sources clean.Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone and other officials were also present on the occasion.Later, Divisional Commissioner chaired a meeting of heads of municipal bodies from all districts via video conferencing. Samoon directed them to start cleanliness drive in their respective areas and also asked them to involve schools and general public. The meeting was informed that around 7000 employees in Srinagar and other municipal bodies have been involved in the cleanliness drive.

Expressing concern on lack of proper dumping grounds in the districts, the Divisional Commissioner directed concerned officials to identify new dumping sites at the earliest. He asked officials to identify the dumping sites, which are away from habitations and water sources, within a week’s time.
