Week-long cleanliness drive begins in Poonch

To kick-start week-long cleanliness drive under Swachh Bharat Mission, Poonch Municipal Council (PMC) today organized Swachh Bharat awareness programme at Government Degree College Poonch, here.Member Legislative Assembly, Haveli, Shah Mohammad Tantray was the Chief Guest on the occasion.Assistant Commissioner Development, Dr. Basharat Hussain, Principal GDC, S. Tajinder Singh, Chief Executive Officer PMC, Irshad Ahmed Sofi, Pardeep Khanna besides Safai Karamcharis and locals were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, highlighted importance of cleanliness and exhorted people to take responsibility in maintaining cleanliness all around. He said cleanliness has to start at individual level and one must focus on his or her domain of daily activities. Cleanliness, he said is essential to cultivate good habits and one should start with personal hygiene.

Stressing on improving sanitation scenario in the town, Mr. Tantray asked CEO to ensure that ban on polythene carry bags is effectively implemented in Municipal limits. He lauded role of Safai Karamcharis in keeping Poonch town Swachh.Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Development emphasized need of turning Swachh Bharat Abhiyan into a movement and added that attitude of people towards maintenance of cleanliness needs to change.Earlier, Executive Officer PMC briefed the assembly about the efforts of PMC in keeping Poonch town clean. He also elaborated upon the newly launched Individual Household Latrines (IHHL) schemes for households without latrine and asked people to avail benefit under the said scheme. The cleanliness drive will continue till November 19 in various wards of Poonch town.
