DDC Anantnag chairs meeting for finalization of the draft Education Policy

District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Mr Muneer ul Islam today chaired a meeting of higher education department for the finalization of the draft New Education Policy which is to be uploaded on the website of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India. The meeting was attended by all the Principals of Government Degree and Polytechnic Colleges.Regarding the improvement of faculty performance, it was suggested that good working environment should be provided to the academic staff. Besides, feedback reports of the students, redressal mechanism for the grievance of the teaching staff, time-bound transfers, residential colleges, refresher courses etc were suggested.

Other suggestions included functional autonomy in terms of academic, financial and administrative matters, general fee enhancement with a waiver for the poor and needy students, introduction of certificate courses, hobby classes, add-ons, strengthening coordination between Degree Colleges and Polytechnic Colleges for providing vocational/professional courses, strengthening new colleges, introduction of new courses as per current needs,  bridging gender and social gaps through holding of awareness and sensitization programmes, hostel facility for the students, quota fixation for women in the college administration, adequate staffing by doing away with the contractual system and provision of a robust counseling and career guidance.Besides, DDC opined that region-specific areas need to be explored and accordingly dovetailed with the mainstream courses.
