Rajasthan signs MOUs worth over Rs.40,000 crore

The Rajasthan government on Thursday signed 111 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with private sector worth over Rs.40,000 crore in sectors like health, tourism and agriculture.The MoUs, which were signed in the presence of union Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma and Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, are likely to generate direct employment for over 82,800 people.The development came in the run up to the Resurgent Rajasthan Partnership Summit 2015 scheduled to be held here on November 19-20.Sharma said: "Rajasthan is known for its tourism products and is an ideal tourism destination. However, there is still scope to develop it."

The chief minister said: "Look at the interest of investors in the state. Today, MOUs were supposed to be signed in tourism sector. However, such has been interest that the MOUs signed today also included sectors like agriculture, industries, skill development and renewable energy."Meanwhile, the state government also announced a new agro-processing and agri-marketing promotion policy to attract investment in the sector."Main objectives of the policy are to promote agro-processing and to reduce post harvest losses at the farmgate thus to ensure maximum prices of farmer's agri produce," an official said.

Beef processing units, investment for manufacturing tobacco products, pan masala containing tobacco and gutka and investment for manufacturing and bottling of potable liquor and beer and certain other industries will not be eligible for benefits of subsidies and exemptions under the new policy.
