Heinous arson attack burnt to death child, mother in Bangladesh

A child of one and a half year and her mother were burnt to death and two more members of the family were wounded in a heinous arson attack carried out by unidentified miscreants at Farashpur village under the upazila at around 2am on Tuesday.The dead were identified as Tasmia alias Tasmin of one and a half year, her mother Taslima Khatun, 40 wife of Chand Ali of Farashpur village.  Chand Ali, 50 and his another daughter Urmi, 20 were also received burn wounds. Chand Ali was rushed to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital with critical burn wounds while Urmi was given treatment in a local hospital.Neighbors alleged that Kamal Hossain, husband of Urmi carried out the arson attack after failing to meet the demands of dowdy.Al Amin, neighbor of the victims told that Kamal Hossain, husband of burn victim Urmi had threatened to kill the family members of Urmi on Sunday after failing to have an amount of money as dowry.

Another neighbor Mehedi Hasan told newsmen that Urmi’s husband Kamal Hossain of Lebutala village under Jessore sadar upazila used to torture the eldest daughter of Chand Ali since they got marriage three years back for which Urmi had been compelled to live in with their parents.Miscreants set the house on fire after pouring petrol through the window while the family members went fast asleep at around 2am, said locals and the police.The wounded were rushed to Kaligonj Upazila Health Complex and then Jessore Medical College Hospital. They were later shifted to Dhaka. But the two died on the way.Anwar Hossain, officer in-charge, Kaligonj police station told journalists that the house was set on fire after pouring fuel. ‘The police were investigating into the incident’, he added.Sazedul Haque Liton, chairman Niamatpur union council told that husband of Urmi could be involved in the attack.Lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar, Azbahar Ali Sheikh, additional superintendent of police and officials of local administrations visited the spot.
