Kullu Becomes The First Place In Himachal To Hoist Monumental National Flag

One hundred feet high National Flag will be hoisted at Kullu during Kullu Dussehra. With this Kullu will join select 63 places in the country where 100 feet high tri-colour has been installed. This will be the first such flag in the state of Himachal Pradesh.The Deputy Commissioner Kullu Rakesh Kanwer informed that this monument will be dedicated to the courage and valour of Indian soldier.The tricolor will be hoisted near Dev Sadan in front of the Rath Ground. This area will be developed as a multi-purpose cultural complex in future. The site of the flag will become a popular destination and will make every Indian feel proud. Besides it is a matter of pride that Kullu has taken lead in the state to install the flag.

This huge 20 feet X30 feet National Flag that will fly on a 100 feet high monumental flagpole. The tricolour weighs 9 kilograms and is made from knitted polyester fabric called ‘Deneir Polyester’ manufactured in Mumbai. The Chakra of the flag has been printed by using specialized printing process. National Flag of the dimension of 20 feet X 30 feet on such lofty height is known as ‘Monumental Flag’, which is not lowered at the sunset as it is properly illuminated during the night. The Ministry of Home Affairs had taken a policy decision on 23rd December 2009, which allowed the National Flag to fly day and night on a flagpole of a height of 100 ft. and above with proper illumination.

The Deputy Commissioner Kullu informed that total cost of the monumental flag is estimated to be Rs 14 lakh, out of which the NHPC Stage II has contributed Rs 6 lakh and the remaining amount has been contributed by the District Cultural Council, Kullu. He thanked Mr A. K. Singh, GM NHPC Stage II for coming forward to help in this project to celebrate the symbol of our nation’s pride- the national flag.
