Acharya Devvrat honours medal winner special children of special Olympics

Governor Acharya Devvrat honoured six special children who won gold and silver medals in the World Summer Special Olympics - 2015 held at Los Angeles recently in a Felicitation function organised by the Special Olympic Bharat, Himachal Chapter at Rajbhawan here today.Felicitating the Children on the occasion, the Governor said that every human being was blessed with one talent or other He said that hidden talents of children should be tapped early in life as young minds are more receptive and trained accordingly so that they excel in special skills and knowledge. He said that the special children were inspiration for others who with their determination and hard work have faced tough challenges and won accolades for their talent.He said that society should develop kind and considerate attitude towards such children and provide them equal opportunities for progress. He said that society as a whole would develop only when we bring them in mainstream. He said that such children need great care and attention and identifying their hidden potential, feelings and thoughts was important for their healthy overall growth.The Governor said that children were assets of the country and nurturing young minds with good values, discipline and right thinking was absolutely essential for the development of nation.He stressed upon inculcating a feeling of brotherhood and fraternity for all our fellow beings and added that every citizen should develop a ' helping attitude ' for those who were under-privileged and needy so that world could become one family. He said that our rich culture upheld such healthy traditions and we should follow them.

Acharya Devvrat honoured Vishakha from Una and Sulochana from Chamba for winning gold medals in athletics and table tennis (unified),  Palak Bhardwaj from Una, Rakesh Kumar from Bilaspur and Krishan Kumar from Kangra who won 2 and one silver medals each in Roller Skating and Handball respectively. Rahul from Mandi was also honoured for securing 5th position in Football.He also honoured coaches Shri Nirmal Chauhan, Shri Prashant Bhasin, Shri Anand Kumar and Smt.Rashim Dhar Sood Sports Director.Smt. Mallika Nadda National Vice-Chairperson, Special Olympic Bharat welcomed the Governor and briefed about the activities of the organisation.She informed that special children from the country won 247 medals which included 61 gold, 65 silver and 121 bronze medals and added that six children from Himachal Pradesh also won the medals in World Summer Special Olympics - 2015. She said that 173 countries were associated with the international organisation which was providing platform to special children for exhibiting their talents. She said that Special Olympic Bharat Himachal Chapter took the initiative for training the children to participate in winter events also and added that preparations were going on to train the children for World Winter Games 2017 to be held in Austria.Shri Pushpendra Rajput Secretary to Governor, Shri Parikshit Mehdudia Area Director Special Olympic Bharat, Representatives of Special Olympic Bharat, Medal Winners and Coaches were also present.
