‘Ladli Beti’ will create positive environment for Girl Child: Chander Prakash

The state-sponsored social assistance scheme ‘Ladli Beti’ will positively  change  the mindsets of the people for  improving the child sex ratio and empowerment of the girl child, this was stated by the Minister for Industries & Commerce Chander Prakash Ganga today after inaugurating the Social Welfare Centre for cutting and tailoring at village Gadwal in tehsil Vijaypur.The Minister said that the scheme has been launched to create a positive disposition towards the girl child. It aims to reverse the declining child sex ratio and emphasizes on laying a firm foundation for girls’ future through improvement in their educational and economic status and to bring about a positive change in social attitude towards birth of a girl. He urged upon the people to enroll their daughters under the ‘Ladli Beti’ scheme so that the future of the girls would be secured.

Ganga also congratulated the people especially women for opening up of the cutting and tailoring centre in the area and asked them to utilize the training and facilities being provided in the centre for earning livelihood.He said Central as well as State Government has launched several welfare schemes for the upliftment of downtrodden people and the Department of Social Welfare has been given instructions to cover all the deserving beneficiaries under these benefits to change their socio-economic profile. He said the Department will provide these facilities to the poor people at their doorsteps by organizing special camps in the rural and far-flung areas.

It is pertinent to mentioned here that the Ladli Beti scheme would be implemented in six districts of the state with skewed sex ratios including Kathua, Jammu, Samba, Budgam, Pulwama and Anantnag. The government would contribute Rs 1,000 per month towards the birth of every girl child with effect from April 1, 2015, for next 14 years. The girl child would receive Rs 6.5 lakh on attaining 21 years of age. Parents with an annual income of less than Rs 75,000 per annum are eligible to receive the benefits of the scheme for their girl child.The District Social Welfare officer Samba, Mushtaq Choudhary also highlighted various schemes launched by the department and stressed upon the people to avail their benefits .The Minister after giving patient hearing to the issues raised by the villagers assured them for the early redressal of their problems .Earlier, the Minister launched the development works of lane and drain amounting to Rs. 11 lakh in the village. He also urged the unemployed youth of the village to get enrolled in MGNREGA .SDM Vijapur Rajnish Gupta, XEN PDD Sanjiv Bhagat, XEN PWD Dinesh Rampal, BDO Ramgarh Rakesh Dubey, concerned officers besides locals were present on the occasion.
