Youm-e-Aseeran, Youm-e-Istiklal resolution on release of political prisoners presented Kashmir a massive jail: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

Chairman Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Saturday termed Kashmir as a massive jail where the resistance leadership is not allowed to carry any activity be it political, social or religious.Delivering his keynote address at a program on Prisoners Day ‘Youm-e-Aseeran and Youm-e-Istiklal’ organised by Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee at Mirwaiz Manzil at Rajouri Kadal in Srinagar, the Mirwaiz said Kashmir had been turned into  a massive jail where  all basic rights of the people are being trampled upon by the state and its agencies.According to a statement issued to KNS, the program chaired by the Hurriyat (M) Chairman, was attended by the AAC party workers, leaders and representative of the Hurriyat (M).

The Mirwaiz reminded the gathering that  on this day (October 10) in year 1965,  when Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq was arrested and subjected to torture for standing up for the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that Shaheed-Millat had to serve jail for two-and-a-half-years and similar has been the fate of hundreds and thousands of youth, hurriyat leaders and activists for the past 25 years who have stood up for cause of freedom who served detention or are still incarsinated.Hurriyat (M) Chairman said for stifling the voice of the people, Indian forces and paramilitary troops had been empowered with draconian black laws, which abet them to unleash gruesome atrocities and get away with impunity. He said the meaning of democracy changes in Kashmir and the way the activities of the resistance leadership are curtailed, that was a clear message to the international community what was really happening in Kashmir.

Mirwaiz paid tributes to the Kashmir’s political prisoners serving jails in Kashmir and different Indian states and lauded their resolve, steadfastness and contributions toward the Kashmir cause. He said that the Hurriyat was duty bound to ensure that the sacrifices of the people of Kashmir do not go waste and the struggle reaches its logical conclusionMirwaiz also strongly condemned govt restrictions on the peaceful activities senior resistance leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Ahmad Shah and others.During the program a resolution presented by the organisation’s General Secretary, A M Zaki was passed on the ‘Yaum-e-Aseeran and Youm-e-Istiklal’.

It was resolved that the organization would appeal the United Nations and human rights organisations like the Amnesty International, Asia Watch, ICRC, and ask it to use its good offices to pressurize India for the immediate release of the Kashmiri political prisoners serving jails in Kashmir and different Indian states and ensure that jail manuals are followed as per the international standards. During the program, it was resolved that the international community should be asked to play its role in the resolution of the Kashmir issue, which if not resolved would pose danger to regional peace.Others who spoke on the occassion include, senior Hurriyat (M) leader Javed Ahmad Mir, Advocate Abdul Majeed Banday, Syed Manzoor Rizvi, Mir Ghulam Hassan, Jaffar Kashmiri, Farooq Ahmad Mamoosi, Abdul Rashid Antoo, Abdul Majeed Wani, Sofi Muhstaq Ahmad, Ghulam Qadir Beigh, Muhammad Shafi Khan, Advocate Bashir Ahmad Pandit, Peer Ghulam Nabi and other senior leaders also shared their ideas on the occasion.

Speakers expressed their concerns over the condition of Kashmiri political prisoners serving jails and detentions in Kashmir and different Indian and demanded their release.They also paid tributes to Awami Majlis-e-Amal founder, Shaheed-e-Millat, Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq and termed his selfless sacrifices for the Kashmir cause as a treasure for the resistance movement of Kashmir. They said Mirwaiz Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Farooq was carrying forward the mission of the Shaheed-e-Millat and the leaders expressed faith in his dynamic leadership and appreciated him for his efforts for the resolution of Kashmir issue, both at the local and international level.
