JK purchasing food-grains from FCI strictly as per quality specifications: Choudhary Zulfkar Ali

The Minister for CA&PD, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali informed the House that the department is procuring rations from Food Corporation of India (FCI) strictly according to the standing guidelines and specifications notified by Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.The Minister was replying to a question by Mr. Shakti Raj Parihar. He said the State Government has never procured any substandard food grains from FCI.He said as the State has to lift a huge quantity of 7.56 lakh Mts of food-grains annually for ration distribution as per 2011 census, FCI has been asked to ensure quality supply of rations.

The Minister said that as and when such complaints are received, the inspection committees, in position in the department as well as FCI stores, swing into action and such food-grains are immediately returned to FCI.The Minister said however, if any specific instance has been noticed by the members, the same will be enquired and redressed immediately.The Minister said quality food grains are being supplied to the schools for mid-day meals if purchased from CA&PD department. He said the Education Department, however, lifts the food-grains for mid-day meals directly from FCI.
