Selling cum purchase foodgrain Centres to be established in all potential districts-Zulfkar

These centres will check prices, facilitate farmers: Sukhnandan, Hanjura

Minister for CA&PD, Ch Zulfkar Ali, today said that well equipped selling cum purchase food grain centres (mandies) would be established soon in all potential districts of the state besides upgrading existing mandies for timely and hassle-free procurement of grains from farmers during the upcoming procurement season.Chairing a high-level meeting here to review and work out modalities to facilitate farmers during upcoming procurement season in the state, the Minister directed the concerned procurement agencies to visit the markets for ensuring that farmers do not face any difficulty in selling their harvest.Minister for Agriculture, Gh. Nabi Hanjura and Minister for PHE & Flood Irrigation Sukhnandan Choudhary were also present in the meeting.

 "This move is aimed at to provide a platform to farmers in sustaining their income besides providing them required impetus for higher investment in agriculture sector for improved productivity” the Minister added.

Zulfkar also constituted a Committee headed by Director CA&PD, Jammu with Director Agriculture and General Manager Food Corporation of India (FCI) as members to identify feasible location for establishment of new selling and purchase outlets in green areas of the state.Emphasizing need of proper transportation and storage facilities, Minister for Agriculture, Gh. Nabi Hanjura said that these effective market interventions will help to keep check on prices and quality besides ensuring overall food security to people of the State.Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sukhnandan Choudhary said these outlets will facilitate farmers to sell their produce to FCI at better prices while procuring agencies would also get benefitted as the supply chain would become shorter and transparent.The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary Agriculture, Secretary CA&PD, Director CA&PD Kashmir, Director CA&PD Jammu, representatives of FCI besides other senior officers of line departments.
