Lal Singh launches special Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan drive in Jammu

Appeals people to maintain cleanliness, hygiene

Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings, Choudhary Lal Singh today launched ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ from Government Medical College here to commemorate 146th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member Legislative Assembly Sat Pal Sharma, Principal Government Medical College Dr. Ghanshyam Dev Gupta, Director Health Services, Dr Baljeet Singh Pathania, Mission Director NHM, Dr. Mohan Singh, Joint Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation R S Jamwal, Administrator Associated Hospitals Babila Rakhwal, Managing Director J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd. Dr. Yash Pal Sharma, Convener Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Bupinder Singh  besides other senior officers of Government Medical College and its associated hospitals participated in the drive.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister paid rich tributes to the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi and said the objective of the ‘’Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’’ launched by Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi is to make India a clean and healthy country.The Minister said it is not only the responsibility of Safai Karamcharis to keep our surroundings clean but every citizen has to contribute in this noble mission. He called upon the people to keep their localities clean for a healthy life.The Minister said ‘Clean India’ campaign will be the best tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary.Lal Singh said that such celebrations would go a long way in inculcating a sense of having clean and pollution-free environment in the State. He said the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan envisioned by the Prime Minister would be instrumental in promoting hygiene. He appealed the people, students, colleges, NGOs to participate actively in the activities undertaken during the week to make it a success.Later, the Minister attended a function organized to celebrate the national day and witnessed the play ‘’Theeth” organized by Ranyug theatre which was highly applauded by the audience.Later, the Minister inspected wall paintings made by the students of Fine Arts and renowned artists of Jammu displayed during an exhibition held opposite Girls hostel of Government Medical College.
