Need to adopt multifaceted and multipronged approach to eradicate drug abuse: DDC

District Development Commissioner, Doda, Mubarak Singh today said that there is a need to adopt a multifaceted, and multidimensional approach to eradicate the menace of drug abuse from the society. He was speaking during a seminar on Drug Abuse which was co-organized by Yasir Memorial Trust Doda, District Red Cross Society Doda in coordination with 10 RR (Rajput) Doda new district hospital Doda.While addressing the gathering, the DDC said that drug abuse is a psychiatric, psychological and social problem affecting the youth of the country. These drugs ruin the inpidual and the society socially, physically, culturally , emotionally and economically, he added.He said that drugs can reduce cognitive operations, making it difficult for the youth of develop a functional set of values and ideals.

Underlining the need for greater participation of youth for creating awareness among the masses regarding ill effects of drug abuse, Mubarak Singh said that youth can play a vital role in creating awareness among the masses by channelizing their energy in a positive way so that the menace could be eradicated from the society.

He appreciated the efforts of organizers of the event and called for organizing such events on periodic basis at differeent levels.Regarding legislations & Acts against Drug Abuse, the DDC said that under Narcotic Drugs & Psychostic substances Act stringent laws are being enacted to fight against drug peddling & drug abuse.SSP Doda Arif Rishu, CMO Doda Dr. Ajay Gupta, Dr. Zia Shokat and various other speakers also spoke on the various aspects of drug abuse during the seminar.
