Supervision and Follow-up Committee of 3rd Arab Women Sports Tournament to hold its second meeting next Saturday

The supervision and follow-up committee for the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST) - Sharjah 2016 is set to hold a second meeting on Saturday, 03 October at the Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) as part of the preparations leading up to the tournament. The event will be hosted by the Emirate of Sharjah and organized by the Women Sports Department at the SLC in February 2016.The meeting will include the signing of a sponsorship, marketing and television broadcasting agreement between the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees and the tournament’s Supreme Organizing Committee, in the presence of HRH Prince Talal bin Badr bin Saud bin Abdul Aziz, President of the Arab Sports Council, Head of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees; Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for AWST; HE Sheikhabint Abdul Aziz Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supervisory and Follow-up Committee for AWST; HE Saud bin Abdul Aziz, Secretary General of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees; HE Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Head of the Executive Committee, Manager of AWST, and member of the Supervisory and Follow-up Committee; Khaled Al Hussein, member of the Supervisory and Follow-up Committee and representative of the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare; Saad bin SalehAl Sofiani, member of the Supervisory and Follow-up Committee and a number of sub-committee heads and media representatives.

Topics for discussion will consist of the latest reports and work updates submitted by heads of administrative committees as well as reports on visits made by inspection commissions to sports facilities that have been approved to host competitions and trainings for teams participating in the tournament.The AWST was launched after the Sharjah Ladies Club (founded in 1982 as an institution of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs) organized a number of successful sports tournaments called “Gulf Countries Competition”. Following this success HH SheikhaJawaher establish the Women Sports Department in 2008. Arab countries outside the Gulf expressed interest in taking part in future events and as a result, HH SheikhaJawaher developed the Arab Women Sports Tournament, the first of its kind in the Arab World. Two editions of AWST have already been successfully organized in 2012 and 2014.
