Govt committed for upgradation of TE infrastructure: Vikar

Minister of State for Technical Education, Power Vikar Rasool has said that the government is committed to upgrade the infrastructure of the Technical Education (TE) institutions so that the youth are imparted with various skills so as to enable them to set up various income generating units besides getting absorbed in the private sector.The Minister was addressing officers during a review meeting of Technical Education department held here today. Secretary Technical Education Mr. Parviaz Malik, Director Technical Education Mr. J. P. Singh, Secretary State Board of Technical Education, Principals of various Polytechnics and other senior officers of the department were present.

The Minister asked the officers to speed up the pace of work on the construction of 18 new polytechnics being taken up. He said that the requisite funds have been released and they should ensure that these are completed within the shortest possible time, so that they can be inaugurated for the benefit of the students living in these areas.

 “The government has undertaken a comprehensive programme of upgrading the already existing infrastructure of the Technical Education department by way of constructing various new polytechnics and augmenting the same by way of getting the latest machineries, equipment and introducing new technical courses” the Minister said and added that the Central Government has been liberal enough in extending the requisite funds for the same as well.While referring to the introduction of new courses in various polytechnics, the Minister said that due care should be taken to ensure that these are job oriented and would provide the prospective students with the much required skills, so that they can be absorbed in various companies in the private sector. He said that the government has also undertaken a comprehensive programme under the Skill Development for Youth (SDY) initiative by which they are sent to the different parts of the country for imparting various trainings to them.The meeting was told that an amount of Rs 135.48 crore has been released for the construction of 18 new polytechnics in the State. It was also told that under skill development for youth initiative about 2000 youth have been sent to the different parts of the country for imparting trainings to them under various trades.
