Wani, Shabir flag off Mobile Medical Unit at Poonch

Minister for Roads and Buildings, Abdul Majid Wani and Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmed Khan today flagged off Mobile Medical Units (MMU) at Poonch.Member Parliament, Prof. Saif-ud-din Soz, Vice Chairman Gujar and Bakerwal Advisory Board, Ch. Bashir Ahmad Naz and Legislator Mr. Rivinder Sharma were present on the occasion.This ambitious health care initiative envisaged under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) caters to primary preventive, curative, primitive and referral health needs of the people in the un-served remote and hilly areas at their doorsteps.Speaking on the occasion, the R&B Minister congratulated the people of Poonch for having such a mobile medical unit for quality healthcare service for the people especially living in remotest areas of the District.The Minister exhorted that liberal funding from the Central Government and able guidance of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has helped to revamp the health services in the State, adding that these mobile units are a step ahead towards strengthening the primary health care services. He said there has been due recognition of the hard work and collaborative efforts of the department at the national fora.

 Mr. Shabir in his address said that the Mobile Medical Unit would provide medicare facilities to the people of remote and hilly areas of the district in emergencies. He said this high-tech medical mobile unit or critical-care ambulance is fitted with the latest equipment and machinery including an X-Ray machine, ECG machine, suction machine and refrigerator. A doctor and a paramedic would also be attached with the ambulance.He said that such facility would be also be provided to other remaining high focused Districts of Jammu pision very soon adding that in all 7 Mobile Medical units are being provided to focused districts of Jammu pision while as 4 such units have been provided to high focused districts of Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara and Leh of Kashmir pision in first phase. He said that these fully equipped units developed at a cost of Rs 27 lakh each will provide medicare and other diagnostic facilities to the people of the remote areas at their doorsteps.Mission Director, NRHM, Dr. Yash Pal Sharma, Director, Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Baljeet Pohtania and other senior officers of Health Department and District Administration, Poonch were also present on the occasion.Meanwhile the Minister also addressed public meetings at Mandi and Surankot and highlighted the achievements registered by the government for all-round development of the State.
