The Education Minister, Punjab, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema here today honoured 38 teachers with State Award, 14 with teachers and 5 Education Officers with commendation letters at C.G.C. Landran. He was presiding over a function on the occasion of Teachers Day. The teachers winning State Awards were given Rs. 10000, medal, a shawl and a commendation letter. As a bonanza for their meritorious services, the teachers were also given one year extension in service. The other 14 teachers and 5 Education Officers were honoured with a shawl and commendation letters. On this occasion, the 6 National Awardee teachers of previous year were also honoured. On this occasion, a book penned by Dr. Kuldeep Singh Banur on previous year's awarded teachers titled 'UDDMI ADHIYAPAK' was also released. The State level function commenced with Saraswati Vandana. After this, Chief Guest Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema paid homage to Former Presidents Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

While addressing the teachers Dr. Cheema made an announcement of increasing the prize amount given to the State Awardees by two and half percent. He also said that the amount of prize money would be increased from Rs. 10000 to Rs. 25000 from next year. He also said that the number of teachers is large in some cadres but due to the fixed quota of the awards many teachers miss out on these. Keeping in view this situation, the number of awards would be increased in accordance with the cadre. He said that due to this only, 14 teachers have been given commendation letters who lost out on the awards due to their limited number but their services rendered are no less than that of the state award winners.Dr. Cheema also gave directions to the education officers of the districts from whom no case or very less number of cases for awards were sent. He said that not even a single case was sent from Barnala and Pathankot. Similarly, only 17 cases were received from the 8 other districts. 

He expressed views that atleast one case should be sent by each of the districts in every award category because it would lead to increase in the competition thereby ensuring the selection of more capable teachers. He commended the sending of 12-13 or more cases from Ludhiana, Patiala, Roopnagar, Fazilka and Sangrur. He also appreciated the efforts of selection committee headed by Principal Secretary for transparent selections.Dr. Cheema also greeted the people on the joint occasion of Janamashtmi and Teachers day and remembered the services rendered by the former presidents Dr. Radhakrishnan and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.  He said that the initiative taken by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to establish direct rapport with the students on teachers day augurs very well for the nation.He congratulated the award winners on behalf of Chief Minister, S. Parkash Singh Badal and the Deputy Chief Minister, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal and said that the Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal has taken special interest in the opening of meritorious schools in the state. He said that the visit of the Chief Minister to the Amritsar meritorious school 31 times itself shows his commitment to the cause of education. 

He also said that the Chief Minister is paying special attention to the field of skill education and the Education Department has also begun the vocational courses in order to make the students stand on their feet in today's competitive era. He informed that the Finance Minister Mr. Parminder Singh Dhindsa has assured the allocation of special funds for primary education in the next budget. About the sports, Dr. Cheema informed that the department has kept Rs. 1.50 Crore at the primary level itself.Dr. Cheema divulged that this time around 5 such teachers have been awarded who have not applied themselves but the department has honoured heir services by selecting them. He said that after infrastructure, now the target is to make Punjab topmost state academically.Before this, Principal Secretary Mr. C. Roul and Director General School Education Mr. Pradeep Agarwal also stressed on the value of education and teachers. Mr. Pradeep Agarwal also read out the messages of the President and the Prime Minister of the country.

On this occasion, the Chairman of C.G.C. Landran Mr. Satnam Singh Sandhu addressed the gathering and welcomed Dr. Cheema and all the other guests. He said that if the Education Department provides them with the list of meritorious students then his group would be very happy to give scholarships to such students.During the occasion , DPI (Secondary Education) Mr. Balbir Singh Dhol, DPI (Elementary Education) Mr. Harbans Singh Sandhu read out the commendation letters of the teachers. The Director of SCERT, Mr. Sukhdev Singh Kahlon presented the vote of thanks. The programme was anchored by Lecturer Rupinder Kaur Grewal.On the occasion, MLA Jathedar Ujagar Singh Badali, President of CGC group of colleges  Rachhpal Singh Dhaliwal, District Planning Committee Chairperson Amanjot Kaur Ramoowalia, SGPC member Ajmer Singh Khera and Charanjit Singh Kaalewal, President of Women's wing of Akali Dal (Mohali) Kuldip Kaur Kang, ADC Poonamdeep Kaur, SDM Lakhmir Singh, District Education Officer of Mohali Mewa Singh Sidhu and all the Education, Circle Education officers and other Officials of the education department were also present.
