Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice President and MLC G N Monga said Congress central as well as state leaders have been fighting for the rehabilitation of September-2014 flood victims from the last one year and will support any call for it.Monga in a statement issued here on Friday said, “Congress doesn’t want to play politics over the issue of rehabilitation of flood victims. Infact our Party has been at the forefront for fighting the cause of rehabilitation of flood victims. We several times held protests in favour of it.”“Our Central leaders including Congress president Sonia Gandhiji and vice president Rahul Gandhji have all along been raising the issue of Kashmir flood victims. Our state leaders including the president G A Mir have several times held protests in favour of rehabilitation of flood victims,” he said.

“Congress is the only party which hit the streets to highlight the plight of flood victims. We are already on the ground and if any call comes for rehabilitation of flood victims comes, we will support it,” the Congress Vice President added.Holding PDP-BJP government responsible for the plight of flood victims he said, “One year has passed and the coalition government has failed to rehabilitate and compensate the flood victims. Both the parties during the elections made false promises with the victims which they have failed to fulfil,” he said. “The Government of India is yet to approve the financial package for rehabilitation of flood hit people proposed by the previous Government. Instead Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs 1.25 lakh crore package for Bihar to gain political mileage as elections are round the corner there.”

“PDP-BJP coalition has created a perception among the flood stricken people here that Jammu and Kashmir is a no priority for Government of India. Government seems hell-bent to add insult to the injuries of flood affected people in the state,” the Congress MLC said. The Congress leader said that government has also failed to take the measure to ensure that 2014 like floods don’t occur again. “The government has failed to take short-term and long-term measures to prevent Kashmir from future floods,” he added.
