Afghanistan trying to revive Silk Road: Ashraf Ghani

Afghanistan is trying to revive the ancient Silk Road and "turn the country into a regional hub for connecting Central Asia to South Asia", Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said on Friday.Addressing the sixth Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA), Ghani said today's Silk Road is full of commercial innovation's potential."We have invested billions of dollars in our roads development," he said.Afghanistan could be the economic hub in Asia, "we are looking at emerging as Asian continental economy", he added.

The Afghan leader also stressed the need for regional cooperation and common fight against terrorism."A peaceful, prosperous and stable Afghanistan would benefit the region and the world at large," he said.Delegates from more than 30 countries and 40 regional and international agencies, including World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, attended the conference which opened on Thursday in Kabul.The two-day meeting discussed issues relating to economic cooperation in the region, trade, business and the role of private sector in boosting economic activity.
